Fontana US Cup

The first races of the season at the US Cup never disappoint. The women's field is stacked with some of the best riders in the world, ready to test what they've been working on all winter.

The heat was full blast in Fontana and I battled it out lap after lap to finish in 6th. I couldn't stick with the riders in the front, but left all I had out on track. The temps were a bit of the shock to the system and I realized I have a lot to learn, but so ready to take on the new challenges ahead.

Sunday's short-track race came right on time, as I was starved to keep on racing! The tight racing provided some serious excitement and I crossed the line in 4th.

The Clif Pro Team is rolling for 2018!! It takes quite the group of people to keep everything in order and moving full speed. I'm truly lucky to be surrounded by an incredible group of women to teach me every step of the way, while also having supportive managers and mechanics behind the scenes. Everyone on board makes it possible to turn dreams into reality.

From start to finish, every step in between, and also everything wayyyyyy prior and wayyy after an event. These guys make it happen. Seriously.

Every year I am even more amazed by the support that I have received from this team, Clif Bar & Company, and all our sponsors.

Race day came in no time and once again I found myself absolutely struggling in the high temps.... I was confused by the messages my body was telling me and my legs, body, and brain seemed to be at a complete disconnect. I barely pedaled my way into 10th place, completely worn out and disappointed. What has just happened?? Why did I feel that way? These are the challenging questions sport will never stop asking, but it's simply another opportunity to expose a weakness and turn it into a strength.

And then.... BAM somehow I turned it around once again for Sunday's short track race. Short and sweet, tight racing, and completely in the pain cave. Fourth place.

Just like that the season was up and running in no time. I was a bit confused about my performances as they were not what I was expecting after a successful fall and winter full of training, but more than anything I had a fresh list of things to work on and a growing fire in my belly. Next up the Sea Otter Classic!
