This being my first race in Europe I was super excited! I was in the 15-18 category and didn't quite know what to think. On the start I was ready, with a call up into the second row. BAM! The gun leaves its mark in our ears as we take off. I fumbled, slowed and then was hit on the handlebar by a girl behind. My handle bars where not straight.... at all. I took off taking a less clear line on the left side of the first hill. Passing many girls. I brought myself up too second, right behind my USA teammate. As we reached the top of the climb I knew I needed to do something about my bars. We had a gap so, I stopped, straightened my handlebars, and was off. In the process I was passes by one girl. I got on her tail and we reached my teammate. I soon passed my competition and my teammate on the next climb. I was in the lead! I was feeling good and had a little gap. Something happened to my teammate and she dropped back. On a few of the punchey climbs I slid out and had to run, but I still had the lead. Soon we went into the second lap. We hit the climb and even though it was hard I was able to go faster then my competition. I began the decent, and she was close behind. Soon we began the third and she was right on my tail. Up the climb we went and then hit the decent with speed. We were neck and neck. It was a fight and we both wanted the win. As we hit the pavement leading into the next lap. We both stood, knowing there was only one lap left. I was still ahead and hit the climb first. It was brutal, but I found a pace I could hold. This time she held my tail and then took the pass. I got on her wheel and pushed myself and my breath rushed into the air. I knew I had to keep with her. We hit the decent and I was still with her. I held it until we went into a small paved climb, where she gained a gap. I kept pushing myself but I slowly lost her. She was slowly leaving my vision and I pounded energy into my legs the best I could. As I crossed the finish I was super happy about my strong race a second!
